MG or ?? ring sight

Got this is a garage sale with 2 German helmets.
Any ides what's for?
I posted a picture next to an M-1 helmet to show the size.
The center part is mobile and I cannot find any stamps.

It reminds me of the ZB37, also known by germans as MG37 (t), AA sight. it is uncomplete.

The AA sight basket pictured with the helmet is almost identical to the standard ZB37 AA sight basket pictured on that gun, but the base of the basket is different than the ZB sight. It is hard to tell if the boss at the bottom of the bracket of the basket has been modified with the screw through the boss to mount it on some other type of base. That part does not look original to me.
The AA sight mounted on the ZB37 has the weighted arms in the vertical position which is incorrect as the weighted arms are designed to function with the arms extended down to keep the basket in the vertical plane when moving the gun in AA use.
