    22 Trainer or Sports Model/

    Greetings All,

I had great response from my previous post and thought I would post a question in regards to a Christmas gift from years gone by.

About 21 years ago my dad gave me a .22 LR that looked like a German Mauser 98k. It even has the bolt take-down disk and the slot and post for the sling in the stock. It is a tack driving single-shot. Thanks Dad! My boys love it when I take it to our range.

    Markings are as follows:

It is marked on the barrel top in front of the receiver: Original Erma Fabrikat (the word Erma is inside a circle and the words Original and Fabrikat wrap around the circle).

KAL. 22 LANG FUR BUCHSEN (not BUSCHEN also an umlot {sp?} over both the U's) down the left side of the barrel in front of the receiver. There is a B and U both with crowns over them.

And on the left side of the receiver it is marked ERMA-GmbH-Abt-GEWEHERFABRIK-ERFURT

Now the question. What is it? I think a pre-war rifle for training or sporting purposes. It is made so similar to the 98k it is wild. What are your guesses? I have seen other rifles that were trainers but never one like this. I do not have a digital camera, so no pics. I really need Santa to bring one.

    Thanks,
    Christopher

It could either be a DSM 34 (Deutsches Sport Modell) or a KKW (Klein Kaliber Wehrmacht, I think). It would be marked like this on the side of the receiver. The KKw is a more perfect copy of the K98k. The KKW, if I recall correctly (I don't have one but my dad does), has the bayonet lug and the DSM34 does not.

        Hi Willi,

Just a quick clarification - KKW means Klein Kaliber Wehrsportgewehr.

        Merry Christmas to all,
        Denny

          Dsm 34

          Thanks Guys,

It is the DSM 34. Does anyone know about manufacture and purpose? Was it designed to be a training rifle or just a plinker in the civilian world?

          Thanks again,

          Christopher
