Standard Modell Mauser in 98k stock

Greetings! I finally have something worth posting about after years of lurking. Today I picked up what appears to be a Mauser Standard Modell in a wartime stock. I'm not sure when they were mated but the stock certainly does not appear to belong to the rifle. It is a 98k stock and has a Waffenamt stamp on the takedown disk. Someone's mix and match fantasy I assume. I'm not we'll versed on these. Here are few pictures.











As I mentioned I don't know much about these so any direction, opinions or information would be appreciated.

It's too bad you don't have the original wood set.....Standard Modell's often have mis-matched bolts....I would guess the original stock was ruined by the veteran or family member and discarded....Than placed into any WW2 German stock that would accept the action....Bodes

Upon further observation, it appears the bolt has been renumbered to match....Bodes

I'm am not really surprised. There appear to be a couple parts of the bolt numbered "45" so I figured something was amiss. I have no illusions about this rifle. I did not buy it for anything more than what it was. I knew there were things wrong with it from first impressions. I paid as much or less than some venders at today's gun show were asking for Czech & Turkish Mausers in worse general condition. Maybe some day I will come across a more appropriate stock and return the action to a better representation of what this rifle should be.

finding a proper stock can't be to difficult , lots of guys that horded k-98 parts still have them.

It is a commercial model, but from one of your photos it is not so clear I can see waffenamt stamp (Eagle ), the stock is a correct stock for late war, IMO it could be
a parts rifle at the end of the war due to shortage of rifles.

Taken me a year, but I found a replacement stock. Paid more than I'd have liked to but it was only the second one I've run across. Has metal and the two pieces are number matched.























Numbering is 4400 off from the rifle. I believe the rifle's serial falls in the range that would have had the rifle stock without the cutout for a straight bolt as opposed to the carbine version with the turned down bolt. A few things left to grab like the muzzle cap, sling, and cleaning rod to make this rifle what I want. I know it will never be correct but I feel better about it.

Only problem is it smells like cigarette smoke. I can't shoulder it with that smell. Any cleaning tips?
