    Best WWII Movies?

I know this isn't a "gun" question, but perhaps we can look at some of the best WWII movies as to which firearms are the best in each movie!
I really like "Enemy at the Gates" since it showed the K98 turret mount sniper! It could have done without the love scenes though, but the action was great! I loved it when they showed the Stukas straifing the Russians boats. That was cool.

"Saving Private Ryan" had one good weapons scene at the end battle when they showed the German 20mm flak gun open up on the US Airborne troops that were on the Tiger tank! Just gruesome!

    What others do you like?

IMO Das Boot and Blackhawk Down are the most accurate.....

I like Bogie in Sahara, and Peck in Guns of Navarone.

I realize Blackhawk isn't WW II, just had to say how good it is.

I would have to go with Band of Brothers...

band of brothers for me too - okay, not really a movie. Saw the whole serie on BBC - the same effects as saving private Ryan, just a little bit longer and more intensive...

Great serie - great actors - great location, ´the most expensive Tv-serie ever´... for some reasons.

I really liked "The Bridge ( Die Brucke)". This was a German film made in the late '50s about a group of young German boys defending a bridge against the Americans in the closing days of the war. The equipment was definitely authentic and it was in German with English subtitles.

My vote is for the 20mm in SPR also. But, the scene where the Captain destroys the German tank by firing his .45 at it has got to run a close second. He never could have done that with a P38!

I would have to go with SPR as well, the scene where the German is slowly sinking the knife into the American got me.

                      Best movie

To me I would say that "Stalingrad" has some great battles scenes that I ever seen. Besides there is the MG34 white-painted, and great "apearences" of the Luger and P-38.

SPR is also good with the camo Panzerschreck. But it suffers of a lack of StG44´s and G43´s.

Band of brothers, promissed to me more than it was able to actually offer. I expected much more combat scenes . But the German tanks and the Luger (as always!!!) worth my time.

                      See you folks,

                      Douglas.

                        Douglas,

Band of Brothers was an excellent show! If you read the book, you will like the combat scenes much better! I don't know why, but the movie left out a lot of stuff from the book, and changed a few scenes as well. Like the attack on the dike in Holland. That is really cool scene from the book! Get the book, I highly recommend it!

                        Doug,

Yes the scene with the 1911 shooting at the Tiger tank was cool. Too bad he didn't have a P38. It would have only taken one shot, instead of 7! That is because he couldn't even hit the tank with that! I suppose they did that to make it look more dramatic or desperate? I think it would have looked better destroying a Tiger tank with a German pistol. How ironic? don't you agree? Just like Sgt. York killing those Germans with the luger!

I also like "Stalingrad" Best combat scenes I agree!

                        Kreigrelic,
Can you get me a copy of that movie you are talking about "The Bridge"? I have never seen that one! It sounds good!

The first 6 shots out of that .45 were just warning shots. The good captain knew what would happen if he hit the tank with that first .45 slug and was warning the poor German tank crew. Plus, the tank was 75 yards away when he started firing. Once it hit 50 yards, he had it dead in his sights (small as they are.....)

                              Doug,

I don't know what movie you are referring to, but in SPR, that Tiger was no where near 75 yards away! It was more like 25 yards. I think this is why you are confused about the accuracy of the 1911. Your 50 yards is actually about 50 feet, which is believable then.

                              Matt

PS- You don't think the P51 had anything to do with that Tiger blowing up do you? Ha ha!
