    garand question

This past weekend I ran across a springfield garand rifle. The sn is 89136and the barrel date is april 26 42. Is this barrel date correct for the reciever, and if it is what would be appr value??
Rifle is in real nice condition with correct stock markings. Just needs to be cleaned up.

    Thanks in Advance

If that serial is correct, it would put the production date of receiver somewhere late november 1940. As can be found here; http://fulton-armory.com/faqs/m1g-faqs/tea/m1serial.htm

So the barrel has been replaced, maybe wartime be could also be post war (with a wartime barrel).

No idea of the value of them in de US.

Serial 89136 would be from September 1942 onwards to October '42.

As an original deactivated M1 can fetch well over £1000 sterling this side of the pond a live firer will be worth - $3000+? Talk to the vendor nicely maybe grab yourself a bargain?

      Good luck!

A five digit serial number Garand is not of 1942 production, Arthur had it correct with 11/40 and it does not have it's orginal production barrel.

What's are the markings on the stock that you mention?

Thank You all for the replys. The markings on the stock are the crossed cannons and normal inspector marks and firing proofs.

Serial number 891360 would be from the time period quoted, but not 89136.

What are the acceptance initials on the stock?

It depends, I've seen rearsenaled with cartouches and mostly original parts going near 900-1000. All original would go the values stated by members. However, it seems now that you can get dang near correct ones from the CMP Field and Service Grades for $585 and $695 respectively!

Prices just increased, it's now $630 and $730, shipped. There are certainly some nice examples flowing from the CMP at times but it's really luck of the draw and on the other hand you may end up with a real dog. Good M1's seem to be in short supply.
