    Strange Suffix on a P08

    Hello collectors,

    Is there sombody who can help me explain this strange suffix number
    It is a S/42 1937 date al parts are bleu.
    Al the part have the same ..37 or 37 number on the barrel is the same numer with 8.83 and a proof mark on the side
    if more pictures needed pleas ask, can take some time becaus it is not mine.
    Found a old tread about is but can't find anything for this one.

    It helps seeing it right side up. It appears to be an r letter suffix that has been struck through.

      Is it seen more on a s/42 luger? Or should i worry
      Whats the value these Days for this kind of p08
      An how many where made over the years.

        What would concern me about this one [ well what we can see anyway ] is the marks through the suffix look blued . Hard to do that with original finish and also all " r " suffix 1937 S42 Mausers I have pics of are the strawed small parts type . I actually have pics of several " s " suffix examples with strawed small parts and one in the " y " block also . If this is being presented as an original finish gun I would be highly skeptical of that . More and better pics would help and remember a refinished one is waaay less desirable than a honest one .           looks like the suffix has been deffaced to me, either by a flat blade screwdriver or chisel?

                Go to Simpson LTD and look up Luger list # M-167 . You will see a 1937 S42 serial # 8696 r and yours should look like that one . Sorry but the one you posted is definitely refinished and not a real good job at that . You didn't buy this thing yet did you ?

                  Looks re-blued for sure, no holster ware, what appears to be pitting blued over.
