Rare 4 hole MG34s with breech covers

I have just spotted this pic of an MG company with rare early 4 hole MG34s with breech covers. You can clearly see there are 4 MG34s. Comments are welcome

Where are our MG34 experts? Still out on Christmas holidays?

Well, I would like to focus on the two buttstocks in the front middle of the pic: That at the left seems to be a bakelite with iron tips, and the other is wooden made, possibly early walnut.

Interesting picture Carles! Especially with the metal tipped butt on a 4 hole mg34, until now I always thought mine was incorrect and I needed an early walnut one.... apparently not it seems!

Some say "Size is not important" but I prefer a good old MG34

have you realised the wooden butt might be a replacement? It looks very new and there is a different tone in the blueing between the butt cup and the receiver...

Even when you can only really count the 4 holes in the front section of one of the MGs (pic) you can guess the other three have the same pattern. Another early feature is the bipod hollow junction part. Pitty the 4 MGs are protected with the breech cover (something not so easy to see in period pics) just because we cannot see if the top covers are milled kind. Perhaps the pistol grip and trigger group are the early kind also...but impossible to see

Nice picture of early 34 ' s and I guess you are right assuming the wooden butt being a replacement. ..maybe field made?

Hi Carles,

I didn't zoom in to notice the wooden stock, but yes I can see it now!

It sure looks new to the gun with the bluing remaining. Also I think I can see MG13 bipods on them, another early feature.

on this time, the bakelite butstock are generally the same number that the MG.

I think that it is an option with the builder.

For the MG34 4 hole there are mauser S/243 and berliner werke BSW.

S/243 built with bakelite stock and BSW built with a walnut stock, IMO

I agree it might be Belgium but I doubt they are crossing a river...they would be wearing pants (GB english) at least. I guess it is some kind of joke or bet
