what a beauty of an sniper rifle, have never seen such a piece before ...
Nevertheless it looks like a put together because of blued and phospated parts, especially the safty looks strange to the bolt ...anyway a nice original piece. Would love to own such a sniper rifle.

But, it is not a "put together" rifle. It is an all matching rifle (not all parts are numbered though on a bcd4) That is how it came from the factory. ALL of those key safetys are found in blue. It is numbered to the rifle, as are all the bolt groups parts. Most phosphated LSRs (as for most phosphated K98ks) have some blued parts on them. This one has less than any I have seen to date. Even some of my mint byf44's (late 44) are mixed up, same goes for a late '44 Kriegsmodell zf41 I have. My other LSR has more blued parts. It has a blued stamped triggerguard, etc. The parts that are not numbered are still correct to a bcd4 rifle. Other various marks exist on those parts, some are 3-letter codes on parts know to have been supplied to bcd. This stuff is a known science, not just opinion.Willi

This is very true Willi....I have 2 dot 44's with byf (Mauser) made floorplates....Like you said, it's a known science....Some suppliers were cross-supplying parts on quite a regular basis...BodesComment

Interesting point on "byf" floorplates and "dot" rifles. We know that "byf" did supply floorplates to the Czech and Austrian makers of K98ks. You can find them on "dot', "dou" abd "bnz" rilfes. If I recall correctly, the "byf" stamped parts on "byf" rifles were stamped with two "WaA135" proofs, while on parts going out as subcontracts, they had a single "WaA135" proof..perhaps I have this mixed up, could be the other way around.
On "bcd4" rifles, we know various subcontractors were used. The bolt cocking piece and sleeve is often "e" (Hermann Kohler, AG Machinenfabrik) marked, for most.
Here is the cocking peice. The "81" is the last two digits of the serial number. Not how crude this stuff was made in 1944.Willi

"qnw" made stamped floorplates for late "bcd" and "dou" rifles.
Barrels for "bcd" rifles, in '43 and '44, were made by "ce" (Sauer), who also made LSR rifles. Only "bcd" and "ce" made LSR snipers.
Many of the rear sight bases and rear sight leafs on "bcd" rifles were made by "i" (Elite Diamantwerke, Chemnitz).
The scope base and mount for Long Side Rail snipers were made by "WaA359" or Walther. Lots of fascinatiung details on rifles such as these. Could go on and on. "e" also made most of the trigger components.Willi

Willi, Yes Steyr (bnz) also used Mauser made parts...The bnz45 I have has a Mauser(byf) made floorplate.....And interesting enough one of my dot44's has a qnw marked trigger guard assembly (along w/ mauser floorplate)....So parts from different contractors was quite common during this time period in the war....And duh?, I guess I need to look at my guns more often.... I'm the one who has a dot44 with stamped triggerguard and machined floorplate...BodesComment
