Hi guys,
An old fellow that I know has a Mauser .22 that he picked up 40 years ago. As far as I know it is functional as he used it for years in a shooting club. But he said it was not new when he got it and I am wondering if anyone can help with the vintage. I am very curious about it.
Attached below are some photos and I will explain the stamps:
Firstly it seems to have a Bakelite buttplate with the text "Mauser".
It holds a magazine just forward of the trigger guard with a capacity of 5 x .22 LR.
The text stamped is:
"Patrone 22 Long Rifle"
"Made in Germany"
A crown with "BNP" underneath.
A six digit serial number.
.22LR .510"
459
Three crowns with a U, G and B underneath.
mauser-werke ag . oberndorf a.n.
Is it a simple sport rifle? Anyone know the year of manufacture?
Thanks to satisfy my curiosity
