Not a firearm just yet. First post actually! However, I will post my collection soon. Figured this would sit well with some of you. To the tune of "One piece at a time" in regards to some of those dastardly dealers who will try and sell you an "All matching K98"
Well, I left Berlin back in thirty nine
An' went to Hamburg workin' on a assembly line
The first year they had me puttin' bolts on gewehrs
Every day I'd watch those rifles go by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was original and matching.
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak it out of there in my pockets or in my hand
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
I'd have me a kar worth at least five grand.
I'd get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when my rifle jams.
I'm gonna ride around in shame
I'm gonna drive everybody insane
'Cause I'll have the ****tiest one there is around.
So the very next day when I punched in
With my big ol' case and with help from my friends
I left that day with a case full of parts
I've never considered myself a thief
But Mauser wouldn't miss just one little piece
Especially if I strung it out over several years.
The first day I got me a rear sight
And the next day I got me a bolt that worked all right
Then I got me a receiver and all the screws
The little things I could get in my big ol' case
Like sight hoods, an' triggers, and the wood base.
But the big stuff we snuck out in my pal's kubelwagen.
Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til we tried to put it all together one night
And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The receiver was a forty three
And the bolt turned out to be a forty one
And when we tried to put in the screws all the holes were gone.
So we drilled it out so that it would fit
And with a little bit of help with a forty four parts kit
We had that rifle runnin' just like a song
Now the locking lugs' were another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the bolt all three of 'em got caught.
The stock looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got through
Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one sling mount
About that time my Spiess walked out
And I could see in his eyes that he had his doubts
But he picked up the rifle and said "Let's see what it can do."
So we drove up town just to get to the range
And I beaded the sights right up on the bull
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the range they didn't laugh
'Cause to sight it in it took the whole damn staff
And when they got through the rifle only jammed 15 times.
I got it one piece at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when my rifle jams.

I'm gonna drive everybody insane
