Help with Gustloffwerke K98 serial number

    I need your help/opinions.
I need to enter this into my C&R bound book but I can't tell if there is a suffix to the serial.

It's a BCD 4 marked version with a BYS barrel. Is the suffix an "O"? Or is that just a mark and it's only the numbers?

I don't see a suffix on any of the other stamped serials.

Don't mind the crud on it the vet's kid decided to sand the stock and make a mess so I got it cheap and I'm cleaning it up. 100% matching down to the bolt as well.

    Thanks for any help!

If it's in the first 10K produced, it will not have a serial number prefix.....However, it does look like a letter.....I'm just not sure what it is....Bodes

Would the "C" have a tail like cursive or just a small "c"?

If you're cleaning, a brass brush and some oil to the receiver should reveal the suffix more clearly....

looks like a stripping agent from someone stripping the stock.. clean the metal with a rag and wd40 at the least.. The letter block is a capitol block letter. Fairly easy to read. Unlike some j.p. saure and lubecker script letters..

It will be cleaned but I can tell you that there's no way that wd 40 on a rag is touching this stuff.

So I think it must be a "C".. thanks!

                Hello,

its a c (C) block rifle. in the k (K) block serial was moved to the barrel so it can't be a o (O) block. you mention its a all matching rifle the bolt root should have the letter block also if not you should take pics as it might be faked?

Ha! If it were faked it would have had to have been done by the captured soldier. I paid $80 for the rifle so I doubt it would be done to enhance value.

Here is a pic... I thought this was a badly stamped "I" inspection mark like are elsewhere on the rifle.. but you're right it's a "C" !

Thanks a million for your insight.

The "stamper" was not taking his job very seriously!

Your bolt serial number is fine....Is it minus the bolt guide?......Bodes
