    Broomhandle Mauser

Hey guys! I picked this piece up yesterday. Tho the serial number is low I believe it to be a 1916 Prussian contract piece. The NS saftey marking and the wide hole hammer are what are leading me to that conclusion. Overall tho a nice numbers matching piece.

          Hi,

          What is the caliber?
How the sight is graded (50-1000 or 50-500) ?
Holster is for a later model (Model 1930). Beware that are a lot of faked holster/stocks around.

Overall looks like a very nice original C96. In my opinion, from what I can see it looks like a Wartime Commercial for the still unidentified (and misnamed) "Scandinavian Contract".
But it could be a very early Red Nine, as it seems to have a military acceptance proof on the right side (which can also be found on many Wartime Commercials). Need the info above to give you a more precise ID.

          Douglas.

Nice German Imperial 7.63mm. Military acceptance stamp on right side... Stock is for the 1930 Series of broomhandle's BILL

He said it was chambered for 9mm which makes me wonder if the barrel has been relined if true.

Pictures are consistent with early red nine, ie flat sight ramp,500 sight, early fine grooved grips without grip nine marking. ? orig stock for later C96

It is an early Red Nine indeed, with its typical 50-500m rear sight.
Hence, original barrel and markings. Nice collectable C96.

Indeed a very early Red 9 minus the Red 9 grips, interesting in Jan C Stills Central Powers Pistols he only list serial numbers 34000-38000 that did not have the Red 9 grip.

Scroll down this page for a list of early red nines without the 9 on the grip.
