    P08 / P38 holster questions

    Hi Guys.

I have some questions for you:

1: Have you seen P08 holsters stamped with production year 1943 or later?

2: Have you seen P38 holsters stamped with production year 1940 or earlier?

And last - 3: Have you seen P08 holsters stamped with RBNR or RFNR?

    Best regards
    Stengaard

    Hi Stengaard,

I have seen P.08 holsters dated as late as 1944. The P.08 was used until the end of the war and, since holsters were easily damaged, they needed replacements.

The earliest P.38 holsters I am aware of are dated 1939. Here is a link to pictures of the one in my collection: http://lmd-militaria.com/page373.html

    Here is a 1940 dated P.38 example: http://lmd-militaria.com/page0053.htm

    I don't recall ever seeing a P.08 holster with a RBNR.

    Regards, Leon

      Thanks Leon.

OK - there is still something out there to look for

I have this WW1 holster, it is a 8" holster that has been cut down.

Would this have been done in the end of WW1 or end of WW2?

With the name of the Obergef. Grisenbeck and the number could be of the P08??.

      Best regards & thanks again

        Hi again Stengaard,

I was hoping someone would reply here who knows more about such things than I do. But, my best guess is that the holster was modified either during the Weimar period or very early Third Reich period. Like I said, that is just a guess. I suppose the number could be the serial number of the pistol and probably is but it could mean something else also.

        Regards, Leon

          1944 P.38 Hardshell holster

Yes on 1943 and 1944 luger holsters . Not common and some are regular and some are police . I do not have one to take pics of but they do indeed exist . Not asked but I have found " 4 " dated P.38 HARDSHELL holsters to be a little hard to find . Softshell seems to be the norm on later ones . JMHO on that as I am not really a P.38 guy . Pics are a " 4 " dated gmo holster . As you can see it has never had a belt in it . WaA mark is upside down and was struck tilted so only the very left side is there , The markings above the left loop are - 0/0655/0013 . Shelf wear but pretty much new condition . No gun in it when I bought it many years ago . Always kept it though as it is a pretty decent example . Well I thought so anyway but I guess we shall see what you folks think !! Dave

            Hi Dave,

Your holster is a transitional example from using the letter coding system to the RB numbering system. Some of those, like yours, got both. I am aware of 4 makers who made hard shell P.38 holsters in 1944, gmo, ewx, lyo and ndk. The lyo and ndks were made in Poland and are almost always brown.

            Nice holster.

            Regards, Leon

Pics are from an epay ad . As you can see it is clearly marked 1943 . Police type . The pics one went off a couple days ago and there is a brown 1943 on there now . Police type also . IMHO the police 1943 & 1944 marked holsters do seem to be more common than standard military ones .

                    Thanks again for replying!

I noticed the holsters used by the police is not stamped P08 and P38 like the army ones, at least the ones I have seen.
