    Italian bayonet question...

Forum Members, I came across this Italian bayonet scabbard on eBay....He has it listed as a rare scabbard for the Italian MAB m38a bayonet....This is the one for the Beretta submachine gun....

Now my question is......Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same scabbard used on the regular folding/fixed blade bayonets?.....It has the earlier style belt attachment, but is a standard issue scabbard (not a rare variation).....It is my understanding, that the only differences in the rarer MAB m38a and the more common folding m38 bayonets, are in the way they are mounted on the weapon.....The m38a having a male mortise instead of the barrel ring......Am I correct in my understanding?.....Please advise.....Thanks kindly, Bodes

      MAB 38 folding bayonet mystery

Bodes; I have run into this question too. All the photos of the folder on the MAB38 gives me the impression that the blades might have been a bit longer, Can't find the answer yet. I have had a few folders, for the rifle, in past years. And seems like I remember the blades being shorter than the ones shown for the MAB38. I have a parts kit MAB 38 in my collection and the stock has a 1 1/2 inch slot cut in the underside on the front of the stock to accept the folded blade. Surfing the Net a few days ago. Saw a 38 folder for sale. No scabbard and asking something like $ 1300. Looks like I won't be putting a blade on my 38 any time soon.

Had it the right fornitures in iron or the "Egyptian" in bronze?

Yeah, there is one that has been on eBay for some time at $1200.....States he just added a scabbard to it.....I would guess $600-800 is a realistic price for one, as they are supposed to be pretty rare....Bodes

Thanks Bill, I would think for production purposes it would make sense to use one style of scabbard....Bodes
