NB NB! Burglary in Narvik war time museum!!

    Tragedy in Narvik!

This night burglers broke in to Narvik war time museum - wich is one of the best and authentic war time museums in Norway. On this stage it is not clear what has been stolen, but the museum already told the news that several firearms/weapons and different medals has been taken. The international collectors community must be aware there might show up stolen items from Narvik for sale in the future.

I hope the museum in short time will present a list over the items included the identification numbers on the weapons.

Sad day for the historical environmet.

    Please share on other forums.

      Sad news.
I hope the serial nbrs get signalled all over Europe (at least) by the authorities so if they show up they will show up as stolen.

        It is sad news.

I understand that " Maskin Pistol" should mean sub-machinegun.

This is good news; thanks for the update.

Do I understand correctly (from the police list of the stolen items) that the Drilling and the hunting rifle are items removed from the German "pocket" battleship Tirpitz? Do you have any information on how (and when) these items were removed from the ship? The items are in very nice condition, so I am assuming that they were removed (perhaps by the German crew evacuating) before it sank; they do not appear to have been submerged in water.

You do understand correctly for the Drilling, unfortunately no informations
on how it got from the Tirpitz to the museum, in fact it seems that the true owner does not want the story on how it came into his family to be known.

Here is the link to the complete source (sorry its in Norwegian, but i'm sure
some fellow collectors will be able to translate better than i do ;-)

In basic the article tells that the Drilling is back on the museum, and that the museum is very glad for that spesific weapon is back. This spesific drilling is the highest valuable weapon of any norwegian ownership today, and there is only two like this left in the world. The Tirpiz-drilling is own by a anonymous family and the museum keeps the weapon for him. The museum know the hole story behind this weapon but there is an agreement that the owner must be anonymus and also the story about how the weapon came to his family. (the museum know the story, and it is also known among the local inhabitants of Narvik..) On Tirpiz the weapon was owned by the admiral.

It is also an intervue with a weapon collector and editor of norwegian hunting-magazine who tells the story about the competition between weapon producer Gebryder Merkel and Sauer & sohn and the exclusive weaponseries wich was produced for Göring. He tell that the luxurious way this weapon is made tells that it can be from the same serie. The editor does tell he is glad this weapon is back where it belong.

The article also tell that the adm.dir of the museum is very glad the tirpiz-drilling is back because all the other guns could be replaced but not that spesific drilling. He also say the security level on the museum will be very much upgraded in short time and there will be a brand new museum buildt. The new museum for the Narvik war history will be opened i 2016.

I have been at this museum many times, and I say it is the second best war time museum I have entered.
