    Help with PO8 Luger

    Hello gentlemen , i have a problem with my PO8 luger being very stiff too pull the toggle back , is there anyone on here who lives in the UK & around the Essex area who i could maybe pop & see too help me out ?

    Appreciate any help

    Hi, can you provide more information? Is this on a working firearm or a deact? Has the toggle ever slid smooth or is this a recent symptom? Is the gun all matching original?

      Hi , it is an all matching number 1940 gun & it is a deact (UK) i have just noticed it as i have not messed with it since i had in a few months ago , just gave it a partial field strip & oiled it , put back together & just noticed it is very stiff to pull the toggle right up , as after watching youtube videos of others being stripped & reassembled & at the ease at which the guys pull the toggle up , made me wonder why mine is not that easy

        Mark, check that the toggle pins are seated fully in the holes.Also makes sure there are no fractures in the toggle assembly sections themselves

          Hi,
          If it's one of the recent deacts they did not clean any of the chaff off the grinding work I bought a P38 with the same problem,spent a couple of hours with a jewellers file now slides as it should.

            done in 2012 , so this might be why it is stiff too pull back/cock ?

              This is where I was going with my theory. Is the toggle oiled well between the frame? The luger is a beautifully machined and matched piece of work. The toggle assembly can be very tight to fit between the frame when reinstalling even in orignal condition. Any machining deformities can and will make things tighter.

                I would lean toward a problem caused by the deactivation rather than not properly fitted when new.

                  That's what I meant by machining deformities...sorry for not being specific. When they cut the front of the bolt head, or whatever they did to it for deact, it more then likely made things "tighter". No doubt using a torch would make things very sloppy.

                    Luger problem

                    You said you had field stripped and oiled it. There is a good possibility that when you re-assembled it that the Coupling Link isn't seated in the right place. There are two places where it will drop into And if it lands in the wrong place there will be problems. That problem got me a slick 1920's model for a song awhile back. The guy had inherited it from his father in law. Said he had loaded it and fired one shot and it jammed on him. No way. I asked if he had take it apart. Swore he didn't, But when I got it home and stripped it down. Sure enough the link was in the wrong place. His little fib cost him $250

                      I agree, sliding it back into the right position is a bit tricky.
