    Help needed with Wa number

    Hello to all,

I would like to know what the 'Wa A 101' stands for. This marking is on leather.
Is there a book that describes the Wa numbers like the red Codebook for the factory letter code??

      Hello Macca,

Could this Wa be found on a Waffen SS leather piece of equipment?

Your WaA number is simply a military acceptanc proof mark. This means that the item was used by the Heer, SS, or Luftwaffe. If this is a leather piece it should have a maker code on it. Usually this is a 3 letter code such as "ddk".

What is this leather item you have? a holster? ammo pouch? please let us know.

Here the picture of the leather tab. The back of the tab has the embossed name and address of the factory in Berlin and is dated 1938.
It is believed that this piece is a Sample (Prototype) made for approval and never produced in larger quantities.

Thank you Tom for the information, Is this list complete or is it possible that the inspector controlled gear for other factories as well and maybe also for the SS?
Anyway, the factories on your list he inspected are principally factories that produced leather equipments and this is in correspondence with the item.

I collect codes cyphers markings etc. This is all the information on Inspector WaA101 that I have. Thats does not mean that it is a complete list it is just means it is all I have on this man. There would have been other inspectors working in these Factories.
                Regards.
                Tom

                  Marc,

what is this tab attached to? a holster?

I'll tell you what though Marc. I don't like it much. This tab is also RZM marked. Which means that it is a political item (whatever your item is?) It should not be WaA marked! WaA markings are for military proofed items only. This marking as shown in your photo looks extremely suspicious to me. where did you get it. What is it? We need much more info. Can you post pics of the entire item, and include the makers markings as well. This will help out tremendously!!

The tab is on a Waffen SS buckle; there is NO question about the authenticity of this pice. Why was it done is an other question. I posted the question about the Wa number in the gun section because I supposed that you guy had some more info on which Wa A 101 stands for. Matt and Tomburnell gave me the answer; Wa A 101 was used on leather gear, for the armed forces (Waffen SS) and the date are also matching. Why the piece was made, why was it stamped with maker, RZM and Wa is the question. So far only one such buckles has been located in the world and I know an of about the subject to know that the tab was not added to the buckle by a collector or faker.
This is why it is believed to be a test piece.
I do not agree on the saying that there can be no Wa marking on political items.
It is not usual but it is possible.
I used to have a extended gun and uniform collection (19 heavy MG- 30+ MP- 200+ rifles and pistols-PZb, ex….) during the happy years in Belgium before the laws changes. And I have many times seen Wa stamps on guns or equipments that was used and marked by the SS.

It is possible that this piece was WaA maked, and later taken by the SS for its own use. The SS used a lot of stuff from the Heer. Such as guns, holsters, uniforms, and so on. Can you post pics of the entire buckle? I would like to see what type it is?
