    AR k98

This rifle was found in a German attic 1 year ago. I bought it from a reenactor who bought it directly off the attic.

The previous owner added the sling and sight hood, other then that I that I think it's a "untouched" rifle. At some point the stock was switched for a early nut stock. I believe this could be a wartime modification. The # (except for the stock) is matching.

I'm going to find a good sling and sight hood.

Any other opinions or can anybody tell me any more about this rifle?

AR 43 was made by Mauser AG Borsigwald. Looks like 120,652 units produced. serial # run 205a-664m. Is it deact or live?

It's a deact, but a live goes in a safe and this one I could put on a mannequin without trouble

I would believe the earlier stock was put on after the war.....Likely replacing a sporterized one.....Bodes

What makes you think that? I've got it (sort of) straight off the source where it has been stored in an attic since '45...

Unfortunately your "source" saying the rifle has been untouched since 1945 will do very little good when the time comes to selling your rifle.....Could it have been replaced before the war's end with an earlier stock?....Of course the possibility exists, but the onus is on you to prove that fact........And since there has been a great number of WW2 German weapons sporterized after the war, anybody doing their share of this would've had access to parts.....Hence the odds are pretty good the stock was added post-1945.....Bodes

btw.....This early stock appears to be in very good shape and I don't see any reason they would've had to take it out of service.....Any metal parts could've been replaced by an armourer, thus keeping the rifle pretty much in it's original factory configuration........

The rifle came without papers originally, a live rifle without papers would be illegal in Germany so why sporterize a illegal rifle?

Well, I can say it's from the attic simply because I was there when he bought it.

I understand what you're saying.......Numerous scenarios come to mind....Enjoy it for what it is....Bodes
