MP44 found hidden in a barn

The Magazine is indeed said to be intended for Vokssturm rifles. However, this does not rule out that they found use on MP44s, so everything is alright with this emsemble. As far as one member wrote sth about restoration: anything done to this gun would ruin ist historical value (blue it or sth like that); it would be a grave mistake.

STG M45 Short magazine is a very rare piece !
i've never seen one in 40 years of collection,even when the Warsaw Pact Arsenals opened their doors of their Mobilization Reserves huge vintage stocks !

Did he strip it to components to polish it? (he could have done, of course) -
Could there be a chance perhaps that it was not blued and this is fairly close to the original finish - some were not blued.

Just speculating - there are experts here who will provide an answer.

I have seen many that weren't blued, just "in the white" with a layer of clear "varnish" spray to protect them.
Mine is a mix match, and has some parts that were not blued or parked.

I checked the parts and the rifle was clearly blued prior to having been polished. All parts are still blued from the inside.

According to the serial no. I believe it is a mid 1944 production rifle. As mentioned, the short mag is parkerized.

I checked the local history for the village where it was found and I am quite certain it was used by the 62. Volksgrenadierdivison. This is the only unit which passed through right at the end of the war. They must have left it there when the division started to disintegrate.

I agree with the comments about restoration. It is bad enough that the rifle has been polished , but applying a new coating would ruin the historical value.

I have a MP44 which is late 1945 production. It is missing the muzzle screw and the has no metal parts (compartment missing).
