    Magazine Pouch Identification Request

    Gents;

    I believe this is a two pocket pouch for Luger pistol magazines. The overall length is about 140mm (5.5 inches).

    The interior flap is stamped "A.E" and presents a faint hand written inscription "P08 E" or maybe "P08 F". Its faint and a little hard to read.

    Could anyone confirm what this pouch is?

    Best regards to all,

    Clay

        It does look spanish to me also...but AE wouldn't be for Arme Español because it isn't in spanish. In spanish we say Ejercito de Tierra (ET) or Ejercito del Aire (EA).

          It is a Portugese issue Luger double magazine pouch.

            Guys;

            Thank you for the really great responses. Is this pouch of WWII vintage? Also, is it a common object? Were these issued in large quantities or is it more of an officer private purchase object?

            Best regards to all,

              Clay..I have seen these dated 1936. They must have been issued in large quantities. There are a lot of them around. Worth around a hundred generally speaking in good condition.

                Like Jerry, I have seen them dated '36 but have also seen a few dated 1963. The "AE" is a Portugese military property mark.

                    If I'm not mistaken "AE" means "Arsenal do Exército" (Army Arsenal) and, yes, it is Portuguese.

                      One additional point: while these double magazine pouches look similar to WWI-era German military double magazine puches for the LP08 and P04 "Luger" pistols, the Portugese military issue pouches (together with the leather holsters used by the Portugese military/police for Luger pistols) were manufactured in Portugal and not in Germany. Rather than send Portugese tax dollars to Germany via buying German-made holsters and mag pouches, the Portugese sourced the mag pouches and holsters domestically; only the Luger pistols came from Germany.
