    Mp34

    Hi all
    What are your thoughts of this MP34?
    I believe some are portuguese and some are of german manufacture ?
    This one has 1942 date but is the crest portuguses?
    All is this MP correct for a german one?

                I like these MP34's - but all I've seen a portugese, how rare the proper German used ones? Thank you

                  Unmarked MP34

                  Several years back I had a chance to examine a Dewat MP34. Having been curious as to its history every since. First off the rear sight was different then the Portuguese. No markings or crests on top cover. Showed no signs of any ever existing. Magazine showed it was the long 9mm cal. Also the two 'Buttons" were not on the receiver cover. The stock had a swayback feature on it at the cheek rest area. Serial number 3114 on left side of lower receiver by hinge. Stock serial number matched receiver Butt plate was stamped AJR10 over 20. . Had been identified as being the Alpine Jaeger Regiment #10. #20 probably rack number.

                    The Portuguese versions seem to br the most common type these are in standard 9mm whereas the german ones were in 9mm but slightly longer ive got a boxed set of the ammo somewhere ill hunt it out both the early ammo and smg are hard to find I like mp34 its a badass looking gun with bayonet on end

                      The ones manufactured in 1942 by Steyr for the Portuguese were made in the factory in Warsaw, Poland. The one I have is chambered for 9mm Luger. Sometimes you see them without the crest on the top cover but the crest is found on the stock.

                        So an Austrian weapon produced by Germany in Poland for the Portuguese....This is Europe

                          There are any proofs that would confirm poland area production ? Radom was made in Poland, but personally dont believe that they moved a production line to Poland.

                            I read that a lot of the contract MP34's manufactured for Portugal were never exported to Portugal and used by the Germans themselves,in non frontline capacity, due to their own need for firearms. J

                              My one has WaA189 stamps on the bolt and frame which belong to the inspector at the Steyr-Daimler plant in Warsaw. This information comes from Claus Espeholt's WaA listing. When I back trace the manufacturer through Heidler's book he confirms MP34 manufactured in Warsaw at Steyr-Dailmler-Puch AG Dworska 29. P-35's were also made at this plant from 1942. Some people think Steyr took over the tooling of the Radom from this date although like all of this there is little documentation available. Personally I think Steyr took some of the parts manufacturing to remove the risk of smuggling from the Radom plant. Some people insist, with little proof, that all Radom production went to Steyr in 1941.

                              Anyway, I trust the WaA listing I have and it says Warschau. Of course this just means the bolt & frame were inspected in Warsaw
