Can I shoot a MG42 somewhere in the Chicago-Detroit area?

Hi Guys,

After seeing several youtube videos on shooting German WWII weapons on various US gun ranges, I was wondering if it possibleto fullfil a lifelong dream to fire a MG42 or failing that a MG34 or MP40 somewhere on a gun range in the Chicago-Detroit area? Any advise is appreciated. Do not fear I have fired a gun before. Thanks.

If your going to do that I pick one of the major downtown parks to shoot it so the police won't have to go far to arrest you. The Peoples Republik of Illinois in NOT a Class III State (surprised?) . There are no privately owned legal full auto weapons in Illinois. You know you can't trust the residents with machine guns. Look what happened on St Valentine's day back some years ago!

Okay guys very funny. Let me specify. Of course I am only interested in a legal option to do so. That is why I am inquiring about a gun range. I remember from previous visits to the US that gun ranges avertised with come shoot with anything you like at our range for so many dollars and the range had the guns available to do so. Is there anything like that in Michigan or anywhere near it?

I know a guy who has a class VII manufactureer license who is able to own and fire full autos.
I have known him all my life.
He says it is an extreme hassle and he may be the only one in the state.
I am not naming names.
At a family outing a while back he ripped off a quantitiy of ammo from a MG 42 and a US .50
