Relined barrel - what is that?

While reading about old Mosin Nagant rifles I came upon the phrase "relined barrel". What does that mean exactly?

I presume it means that it has been restored in some way, but how? Can it be that the rifling has been renewed?

Sorry for this partly off topic question, but I don't know where else to ask.

To the best of my knowledge thats what it means, how they do that I am not sure, I think they bore it out and install a new sleeve in the barrel.

Seems I was mostly right, I went and "asked Jeeves", and what I mentioned above stands, but after they put the sleeve in, they then rifle it to the correct caliber!

    Hope this helps

Thank you. This enables you to restore an original gun yet still keep the original part (barrel). Nice. Unfortunately it's probably more expensive than simply replacing a worn barrel.
