    Mg 42

    Hello

I have the chance to buy this MG42.

I am told its all matching serial number, all German made parts. From what I can tell it is, one looks a bit strange?

It was deactivated in 2006 with 3 Birmingham proof stamps.

Unfortunately they have lost the deac certificate and that concerns me.

I am by far no expert when it comes to if all looks correct? So value your opinions good or bad?

What price would you consider fair for this ? This is in England.

    Thank you

      Hello Kevin,

Obviously can't give you a specific value without pictures, but they're around £1700 now but that depends on what parts are original and whether it is complete. For all original examples then you could pay nearer to £2000.

When you say "all matching" it doesn't sound good - as they were only numbered in one place originally that I know of, on the receiver. The top cover and buttstock weren't marked with a serial number, so it sounds like it is a postwar used example and most likely won't be all correct. You will need pictures of the internal parts as well as these are often replaced post war.

No need for the deact certificate at all on any deacts, you just need to make sure it is clearly proofed as such.

Hope that helps, and look forward to seeing some pictures

      Patrick

Looks nice! It's a Russian capture (RC) so has been reblued throughout and has the electro pen numbers which can seen in certain places. The stock, and front sight that have the number stamped into them are original parts but the numbers are post war added and stock has been sanded. Hope that helps
