Got my sight hood and cleaning rod. Should have gone with the 12 and man this sight hood will never just fall off this rifle no matter what I did it would not go on. Are they always like that? I had to used a handled of a ratchet and pretty much press that into the sight hood to spread it apart far enough to get it on the rifle. Here's a pic going to order a new rod and resell the 10 since I won't need it and man I wish I knew how hard it was to do these sight hoods lol

You may want to get yourself a pair of snap ring pliers....Set it up so that the tips open as you squeeze the handle......You than pry the legs of the sight just far enough to place over the front blade (of sight) and into the groove.....It's worked well for me in the past.....Bodes

I was thinking that myself honestly I'm a mechanic and work at a local speed shop and was looking at my snap ring pliers today and was thinking man these would work on the site to bad they were locked in my tool box while I was at home fighting with the sight hood lol. I get paid tomorrow so I'm gonna order a sling and 12 inch cleaning rod. Do you have a site you would reccomend getting them from? Also just out of curiosity since I don't ever sell any of my weapons whether they function or not what would my k98 be worth as is? Most of the parts are numbers matching only the bolt doesn't match but numbers front the bolt aren't far off from the rifle which don't make a difference since its not matching. But the big parts are like the stock and bands and what not all match. And does not have any import markings

You may want to check Numrich or Sarco for a cleaning rod.....IF you're looking for an original sling, you may want to look on eBay under the seller 'us1945'....His name is Tommy and he lives in Europe.....He won't be cheap, but he sells originals and knows quite a bit about Mauser slings....I believe he's still a member on this forum.....He may also be able to set you up with an original cleaning rod....Bodes

The RU stamp indicates the origin of the steel I believe. It stands for Ruhr stahl or something along those lines.
