Would it be even long enough for a K98k?

Italian. I've got one on an M28 Beutewaffe.

Correction: On an M38. Also has keeper and brass button. I've seen these on other Carcanos and I think on a K98k; I think I've seen some with steel buttons. They are similar to the so-called "tropical Carcano slings" which have open buckles. Pure theory, not confirmed: Post 1943, perhaps RSI. The one I have turned up on the rifle in a fleamarket years ago so no good provenance.
