    PPK (looking for comments)

I picked up this PPK today. I don't have any experience with these and am looking for info and comments about it. The waffenampts are marked with "N". the S/N is 287025K. I don't see any s/n on the clip.

I'm looking for comments on the following:

    - as far as PPK's go, is this one just your average PPK or is there anything rare or unique about it?

    - would this have been produced prior to WWII or is this war time production?

    - would this have been carried by military or could this have been carried by political?

    - when the slide is pulled back and the gun is turned on it's side, the safety lever falls out of the gun. Is this problem easy to fix or should it be left alone? (I don't intend to ever fire the gun)

    Any info is appreciated. thanks.

If the safety system is broken that is bad. Esp. when it falls out. Look for a good gunsmith.

There are two stampings, they both appear to have an eagle with an "N" underneath it. Is this what designates it as commercial?
Even though commercial, is this pre wwii or wwii production? Anyone willing to put a value on it as is? I'm just hoping I didn't get burned on it. thanks.

The safety fell out because you are missing the extractor, extractor plunger, extractor spring, and the safety plunger. Remove the slide, you are probably missing the firing pin and firing pin spring as well. Someone likely intentionally disabled this gun.

nice. this certainly is not good news.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but when the gun is cocked the hammer still drops when you pull the trigger.

It also looks like you're missing the extractor and accompanying parts - (herd beat me to it. edit)
You need to get this one looked at, before firing, even if you put new parts in it.
Otherwise it's a nice holster filler on a mannequin.

I bought this from private seller so no taking back now. Is there any value to this as it sits?

Absolutely. Replacement parts are available. The magazine is also original. Does it have the firing pin and spring in it?

Your PPK is of wartime production of commercial guns for use by officers or civilians authorized to purchase such a weapon. You should be able to purchase the missing parts to render yvour pistol operable. Though it would not necessarily be a collector's piece. Perhaps a nice condition shooter. I would value the gun at $450.

...also, how easy would it be to track down the replacement parts for this and what do you think smithing services would run to get this gun operational?
