    Browning High Power

    Hello,
Thanks for the advice Robert. It is a Browning model 1922 in 7.65, not in 9mm/kurz. This might not seem like a big deal for most people but I live in a place where all firearms must be properly registered and the Government doesn't like it when things with fire arms go wrong. Exspecially when you want to change a falsy registered hand gun. I will also send you a scan of the back of the grips when I get a chance.

Greg, thanks for putting the pictures up for me.

Bill, about the Radom serial #, as you can see from the pics I hit the 'x' button a few to many times. Oh well.

Thanks again for all of the help. Bill and Robert I will continue to talk to you guys about my previous messages.

      Cam,

The pics of your 1922 do not show a high polish finish. Please look at the pics of my Browning 1922. This is a very early one, with high polish finish and black grips. Serial 28xxx with no letter suffix! Notice that there are no machine markings on this one at all. Also, this one is marked with the earlier, "eagle/WaA103" proof. Note also the "FN" marking on the trigger guard.

Your grips could easily be changed back to walnut if desired. (in fact, I can probably even find you a set if interested?)

Also, your Radom should have a letter prefix (not suffix), followed by a four diget number. Looking at the pics it appear to be correct, but I can't make out what it is? Condition of the Radom appears very nice though!

        Example

        Matt,

That is a very nice example of a early German issue, as usual you have the nice stuff.

Thank your Robert, but I know you have some much better stuff than I do!

The reason I snagged this one up is because of the "eagle/WaA103" markings (and also because the pistol is in great shape of course!). I feel that this proof marking is more difficult to find than the "eagle/WaA613" and of course the later, "eagle/WaA140".
I also have a Browning high power with the "eagle/WaA103" as well!

Glad you liked it though! I can show more pics of it as well as the drop holster that came with it as well!

            Matt,

I have a couple of nice items but I have come to respect your collection...

I would be delighted for you to post additional pictures and of the original holster also... who knows I might even pull out a rig or two

I first need to get some pictures done up on my mg 34, for a nice fellow in Ireland, if the board will tolerate them I could also post them.

            Again, nice example!

              Robert,

Thank you very much for your respect. That means a great deal to me coming from yourself. I am just a small time collector compaired to yourself, and many others here on the forum. I don't have nearly the quantity that many of you guys have, but I always collect quality. I decided that right away when I began collecting.
Of course the forum will welcome your pics of your MG34!!!! That is my favorite MG! And if its' yours, I'm sure its' a screamer!
Anyways, enough of the sedimental BS, let's get back to more guns!

You asked for more pics, so here they are! Enjoy!

Nice mid war Luftwaffe drop holster for the Browning 1922. Holster is unmarked, but appears to be Kreighoff made.

left side. I appologized for the cut photos, but I had to crop them short in order for me to post them here. For some reason I can only post pics 700x750 now?
this is as big as I can get it.

right side. This 1922 has the typical amount of wear at that slide extension. However, the rest of the pistol displays a very nice high polish finish! Minty bore of course as with any 1922. Grips are perfect.

Hard to see in the photo, but both mags are maked, "eagle/WaA103", which is correct for this 1922 of course!

                          Browning Holster

                          Hello,
Porbably just another FNG question but why is it called a drop holster? Is this specifically a Luftwaffe Item? Also how much should one of these holsters cost?
                          Thanks

                          Cam

                              Robert,

I've got one of those as well, (the "jhg 43"). Only mine does not have the Russian "BA" marking on the tab! (lucky me! ) Should be ink stamped inside as well with model designation, and Russian "BA" mark.

Cam, I believe that like all good "nicknames" the "drop holster" term comes from collectors.
This is because of the way the holster can open up quickly.
All you have to do is push down, or "drop" the holster from your waist. The belt loop will ride along the two straps you see in the front, thus popping off the closure strap (tough to do with a minty holster like Roberts', but one that is broken in well like mine above is easy to do!), opening up the holster and exposing it's leathal contents quickly!

The drop holsters are mostly seen in WWII photos on the belts of Luftwaffe personell. However, like all rules, there are execptions to this, and I have one WWII wartime photo of a German army recon vehicle that show two of the crew with Browing 1922s on them, in drop holsters like these! They were made for several small caliber pistols such as: Browning 1922, Walther PP, Walther PPK, and Femaru P37.

You can get the Browning 1922 holsters fairly easily (easiest one to find of the above mentioned models, and also the cheapest!). In fact you can find a minty, un-issued one, like Roberts' above, for around $125.
Ask Robert, if he has any of these left for sale! A good buy, and a great looking holster!

                              Matt

                                browning w/ capture papers!

                                Hi,
Here is another Browning 1922 with capture papers and another type of holster, the grips are original to the gun and this item was purchased from the Vet.
