This rifle has not been re-blued. It has been in a safe for the last 30 years being wiped down once a year with oil. It has got nothing but love.

    I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.

Hi Eric, I don't think I have ever seen such a clean K98, you certainly don't see any as nice as that over here. Thanks for sharing the pics.

        Cheers, Ade.

Lots of dings and scratches, well worn edges from years of being handled and almost 100% Blueing! Yeah right!

Look it's a nice rifle, no mistake, but you have either been lied too or you are full of ****!

              Gog,
I assure you that this rifle has not been re-blued recently or within the thirty years while it was in my gun safe. I gave this rifle to my son just this past month and I can assure it is in the same condition as it was when it left my safe. I would have let your post go and just chalked it up to the fact that you are a new member and did not understand the rules of civility here on the forum. However, once you labled me a liar I felt obliged to reply. This I have done and now I wash my hands of you. Congratulations, you have increased my "ignore" list by one....

Sorry Gog, You're out to lunch on this one .....Guns that are re-blued have the characteristics of rounded off serial numbers, proof marks, etc. from being buffed/polished (tend to lack sharpness)....This rifle exhibits NONE of these traits....And if you look closely at the pictures of the rifle, you'll see slight wear indicative of a WWII blued rifle...Looks text book to me....Bodes

Sorry for the delay but I've been busy.

I have reblued several firearms myself and know a few people that do it for work and the 2 people that I showed these pics to both agree that the rifle has 'most likely' been reblued at 'some stage of it's life' postwar.

The condition of the blue is not unrealistic as rifles are still being found to this day in miny condition. What raises alarm bells are 2 things.
                  1. The condition of the blue does not match the condition of the woodwork. The stock is worn and exhibits the traits of a well used rifle. The blue does not, not even near it.
                  2. The '30 years in storage' story. That would mean that all of it's wear took place before 1974. Thats 30 years worth. Now that would explain the condition of the stock but not the blue.

The bottom line is, it does not match!

How can the owner prove the rifle is genuine? Well that's pretty hard considering it's condition and hey, they may not even give a toss but I want to see close up pics of the stock markings!
If that rifle spent 30 years in storage and the blue is in near perfect condition then the stock markings should be clear. Lets see em!

Listen Gog if you want a picture of the C that is on the stock then you will have one. No problem! It will be up within 24 hours.

Also, what do you mean the condition of the stock does not match the condition of the rifle. It's a beautiful rifle and it matches completly. Just like other war time Collectibles some came through showing abuse and other made it through like they were made yestarday, like the EKI marked 26. I will have picture up later of the mark.

                        Erik,
Nice 98, don't worry about the rebluing remarks made by Gog. Your rifle has correct wear on the bolt handle, it is turning a nice plum color. The floor plate also exhibits wear where your hand would be when carrying the rifle. The front sight ring has finish wear that you almost always see. The muzzle also has the proper finish loss from firing. The bayonett lug has finish wear on the high points as well. Your rear sight leaf also exhibits correct wear. Nothing here to worry about, enjoy. Jeff

What a nice item, i got my all matching a while ago, and took it to the range.. was perfect. got a decent grouping too... just remember to oil it down and clean that receiver and bolt and get the headspace checked if you do decide to pop it

I agree with Jeff and others - l have owned and handled dozens of these rifles over the years and this one looks totally original and un-messed with.

Some members may not know that BCD is the manufacturer code for Gustloff-Werke which was a Nazi party controlled firm created from the seized assets of Simson Werk (a Jewish company). These rifles were manufactured by concentration camp slave labor at Buchenwald. Some people call these "camp guns" but the truth is that most late war German war material was produced with some level of slave labor.

Nice rifle - glad it's staying in the family for a new generation to enjoy.
