    P-38 Lanyard Questions...

Is anyone familiar with the proper wear of the web P-38 lanyard? It is quite long, and doesn't seem to go on the belt... Maybe someone has an original photo of one being worn?

If you need photos to verify what I am talking about, let me know.

The only photo that I have ever seen that absolutly shows a P.38 lanyard in use is in a very much published photo (it is actually one of a series) of a GD officer in a camo smock at some type of field staff meeting. He is wearing the lanyard around his neck and the P.38 is hanging down at his waist. I'm sorry that I can not get to my copy of the photo anytime soon, but I'm sure that many others have this photo as it is very well published in several GD related books.

I've never seen the photo that Phil just mentioned, but would love to see it! Please post it if you can!?

The only wartime photo I know of that shows a P38 lanyard clearly is of an SS panzer commander in his copula of a Pzkfw MkIIIJ I believe, taken during the battle of Karkof, winter 1943.
He is holding the P38 in his hand, and you can clearly see the lanyard attached to it. However, it is very difficult to determine how the lanyard is attached, as this photo (like most wartime photos), is in black and white, and is somewhat "grainy" looking.

I'll try and find that photo in one of my panzer books, and I'll post it up here.

        Around his neck?

Thanks for the help! Around his neck? I don't believe I have seen that picture... Seems like an obvious safety risk ESPECIALLY for a tank commander. If you could post the picture, I would be eternally grateful...

        Thanks!
