Question on a K98 BYF 44 serial # 9621h

Was it part of 1944 K98 assembly practice to not serialize the small bolt release lever on the top left of the receiver? I had read that it maybe for the case of the rear sights in late war model K98s. maybe...possibly...would it be in a different place on that lever?

I have an original byf 44 in the f block, and there is no number showing on mine.

My c-block (April) byf 44 has a numbered bolt release, while d-block is not...
