Cleaning rod, but to which weapon?

I just got this in. I do not know to which weapon it belong. Seller said it was German but I have my doubts. So if anybody has any input it will be appreciated.

Length is just below 35 cm. No stamps visible.

I think it is a section from a U.S. military issue cleaning rod for the .50 cal. Browning MG. These are sectional cleaning rods (using 3 or 4 pieces that screw together) with a "T" handle.

I've got one of these rods that I bought as "army surplus" when I was a kid. I had no use for the rod for 30+ years until I acquired a WWI Mauser T-Gewehr; so now I finally have a use for my .50 cal. cleaning rod!
