Gewehr 88 Cartridge Box Help Requested

Gents:

I believe this box is for a Gewehr 88 rifle but it is a little different that the other Gewehr 88 boxes I have seen. It does not have the two belt loop tab posts on the bottom nor the center brass rectangular fitting. It also has a dip on the center edge of the lid.

Is this an earlier version, a variation, or a different cartridge box all together?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that might be for the Mauser Model 1871.
