            Hi guys,

Looking for a yea / nay on this P38, holster, and spare magazine. The gun is marked 8461 and is also stamped “88”. The spare magazine comes with ammunition.

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated.

            Thanks!
            Mills

Looks like a legit piece of beauty to me! What is with the second I and is that WWII ammo in there?

              Happy Holidays!

The maker mark and the waffenamt are Spreewerke, nice gun. The holster period too.

I agree with everyone else, it is original and nice. The second I that was mentioned is interesting. It looks like 856i with the letter I following it, but both attempts at the letter I seem to be the number 1 with a dot over it. I have no clue to what that is all about, the Germans were pretty good at attention to detail. If it was my purchase, the first thing I would do is clean up that ammo. It is probably WW2 and corrosive.

You P.38 is a nice looking Spreewerk gun (CYQ) 8461 i made in November of 1943 the grips should W41 Prosset grips or Durofoil check the inside of the grips for that. The magazine should have an E/88 low on the spine with no other markings. Although a JVD on the side plate was not uncommon either. I have a CYQ 7418 i
                        also made in November 1943.

Your holster is real alright but someone has damaged the lifting strap by breaking or cutting it. These are usually attached behind the metal closure plate on the body. You will see where it was attached if you look inside behind the metal plate. It will be a small section stitched in. They then slit the back panel and tucked the strap in there. Now it serves no useful purpose. I replace/restore a dozen of these a year. The rivets have to be removed and a new strap made and sewn in..then new rivets are made and hand hammered in!
