    1944 Colt 1911a1

Hey all, posting a colt 1911a1 for review. Serial number is 1,166,***. 1944 .45s started at serial number 1,150,000. So looks like an early '44 to me. The slide is not numbered, which is correct. The barrel is marked colt .45. All components seem to be colt. Overall in good condition. Great bore, and finish. Functions well. Whomever stamped the GHD did not have a steady hand. No G, but the D is clearly indented more. Thus this is due to a sloppy worker. Otherwise the markings are all sharp. Only issue I have been alerted to is the grips. Look at the rings around the screws on the grips. On the one grip the rings are thicker. So I am assuming that the grips are not correct. I am no expert, but this gun looks good to me from what I have read and seen. I am posting here for comments and concerns.

    Fire away.

Your Colt 1911A1 was shipped either January 14, 18 or February 5, 1944. You are correct about the stocks, as the right is Colt and the left is Keyes (Remington Rand, Ithaca, or US&S).

Most of the WWII barrels have COLT .45 AUTO on the left side of the chamber just above the lug. Post war barrels have COLT .45 AUTO on top of the barrel. What marking is just ahead of the lug?

It is not unusual to see the acceptance initials stamped with just a partial stamp, crooked, and sometimes even upside down.

Hi Johnny, thanks for your informative response! The three shipping dates are really appreciated. The barrel is a WW2 Colt, I tried taking a picture but it was too blurry. Thanks

There should just be a letter or letters or maybe a number.

Nice piece, once a common item now getting harder and harder to find in unmolested shape.

Thanks! Well I am trying to get a good(unmolested) pistol from each major player in WW2. Luger is next, well once I find one for a good price. Lugers and .45s can be ridiculous in price. At least T14s are affordable.
