Ok, I've wanted a Luger for a really long time, and now I've found one that I really like, and I'm at a point where I can totally afford a nice one. Well, I found a nice 42 code 1940 rig for 3k. It has minor holster wear (I'd say over 90% finish), its completely matching (one magazine matches, the other one is from the same block, but is a few serial numbers off), it has the holster and takedown tool as well. Just wondering if this is a good buy? I've bought from this seller before, and he's a grade A guy (bought a P38 from him). I really like this particular pistol, I just need a second opinion on the price. Thanks in advance guys!!!

Hey Josh - I have what sounds like a pretty similar Luger and paid about $1800 for it maybe 3 years ago. I am definitely not an expert and wouldn't pretend to be but that sounds like it may be a high - again Lugers are a science unto themselves and like most WW2 german items it seems that one letter code can drastically change the value. I'm new to this forum and there's probably terrific knowledge here too but I posted pics of mine over at lugerforum.com. Those guys live for Lugers and will typically be very helpful in providing the market values of specific Models. I'd give them a try if you have all the info (and more importantly pictures) of the one you are looking at.
Hope that helps and good luck with your purchase. They are beautiful guns and in my opinion nothing quite fits your hand like a Luger!
