    MG42 wood stock

    Hi,
I'm interested to hear any opinions either way on this MG42 stock.
I don't want to plant any ideas prior to hearing others but I wondered if it has been cleaned up and then restamped WaA34 and hvg 44 to increase the value.
From experience I appreciate that the end grain at the shoulder end could absorb oil and grime and possibly at the front end if heavily greased.
However if the L/H side had been sanded then I'd have thought the markings would be fainter whereas these are very crisp.
    Any thoughts gratefully received!

        Grossfuss,
The markings are fake. The Wa# is correct for one of the stock manufacturers but the eagle is different on the originals. Apparently there have been quite a few fakes hitting ebay lately.

Final thought on this issue following inspection of photos of another original stock - difficult to see in the last picture provided above - but is "hvg" the correct three-letter code anyway?
If anyone wishes to add to this but not provide info for fakers then please PM me.
Thanks for all comments so far - the seller has since agreed the markings are new.
                Best regards,
                Grossfuss

                  hvg is an original marking.
