verification of real zf 41

    verification of real zf 41

    What I have here is a bcd 4 phospate rifle all matching s#1877 duv mount w/o numbers and fvs scope. Should the numbers on the stock #3405 and mount match the rifle ser # or could they be a rack number? The mount is blue and also the base is blue also with wear to the blue as if it is very old and not a reproduction.

    The person who sold me the rifle stated that they used the most accurate rifles to build the zf 41s and the mounts were put on after the rifles initial production.

    I am very new to these rifles and any help would be greatly appreciated

    scope number is 0728

    First of all welcome to the forum

    The numbers onn the stock and the numbers on the mount should usually match the rifle serialnumber. But during the war many parts on the rifles where changed because of damage etc ...after the war many parts of the rifles where changed because of cleaning (not matching bolts etc ...)

    I would be helpful if you could post pics from the rifle and scope.

    And we have here a specialist for ZF41. He can give you more info
    on the scope

      Pics needed

      Mausers k98 with zf41 are very easy to fake,same serial number on the gun and the mount without seing any picture looks at first suspicious,sorry I owned two and both were reworked so please post an picture.

        They are very easily faked, and with all original components. An amateur gunsmith can sweat a scope base on any k98, and they cut the stock alittle.

        Matching mounts are very rare.

        Though I can do some checking, I would be very suspicious of a bcd with zf41. Most zf41 rifles were made on byf, duv or ar coded rifles.

        Proceed with caution.....

          ok I have now disassembled the rifle and found this

          under barrel 2vk CV eagle 13 and a star? top of rec eagle749? bcd 4
          barrel has 11877 rest of the rifle marked 1187
          eagle 18 on trigger
          c on bottom of stock 4 inches behind grip


          upper handguard has old number 3869 with xxxx over it
          also has correct 11877 stamped with 1/4 inch stamp

          lower stock has 251?? with over stamping 11877

          left side of stock marked 3405

          under butt plate Ra2 30

          right side of stock has an eagle with wings that seem to be thick from top to bottom in comparison to my dot 44 rifle
          with 2 more proofs each 1/8 an inch from each other in decending order from takedown ring to butt.


          I paid 3500 for this rifle and have the option of returning it please tell me what you think. I may have pictures tomorrow but I need to know ASAP

            Hi, so your scope is fvs (not fzs! ). I guess it is marked 'ZF41/1' with '+' and it was manufactured around 1943.
            It is said that the factory maunfactured K98k-Zf41s were only ar, byf and duv. So if your bcd4 is genuine, it must be a field conversion done by a trained armourer. Anyway, I will leave the markings on the rifle for the other members!

              Honestly, owning a few bcd4 long side rail snipers and having just looked at two more, your description of the rifle sounds like that stock is not original to the rifle.

              The key here........in regarding whether it is a true zf41 rifle, is the fact that bcd did not make zf41 rifles. bcd made long side rail sniper rifles (with enlarged receivers) in 1944...and lots of regular k98s.

              Would like to see photos, but am not liking what I hear. My advice is to not get stuck with this one. And that includes the whole "field made zf41" logic.

                Did you proved it?

                I agree with Mr. Zahn following what you said seems that is an new reworked k98,but neverthless once the scope is mounted did you shoot with it?,If it's an fake probably at 100 meters you wouldn't be able to make an 9 or 10 probably it will go to left or to the right, check it looking through the barrel and with the scope if both looks at the same place it's an positive step but if not is an definitive prove of an remounted k98.I hope this helps you,and also I colud understand your deception because this also had happens to me.Good luck
