    It's a mistake.
It was produced since 1942 untill the end of production in 1945

I've been reading around the internet that AVT full-auto selective version of the SVT40 was only produced in 1943, for a short period of time... How come my second rifle has the buttstock dated 1945 in the AVT cartouche?? Any expert can clarify?

That was my thought. Thanks for confirming.

An up date: I have removed the varnish and plum colour of my second rifle...and swaped the buttstocks. I have also bought ANOTHER SVT40 in working condition, with the rails for the scope, so I will keep one as SVT40 scoped and another as AVT un-scoped. I will get the right SVT buttsock with the new rifle (in about 20 days time due to import procedures)

          Last update this year:

I have bought a right SVT buttstock for my "to come" SVT40, as the one it has doesn't look too nice. I have mounted it on the deactivated rifle (top) just for the pics. In pic 2 you can see it has a a stamp on the right of the butt. Looks like an arrow? or an uncomplete square? Anyhow, just not a AVT cartouche I will soon remove the shellac, of course.

Another difference between the SVT and the AVT buttstock, safety notch apart, is that the SVT (top) butt and grip are thinner. It is a bit difficult to see but you can feel it in your hand.

Hey! just listening to "Lli Marlene" at youtube I realised there is a nice pic of what looks like sniper SVT40 in 0:11.

I've found this pic in an SVT40 manual. I believe it describes an SVT38. As you can see it is depicted with what I considered an SVT38 mag, so would confirm what I stated in post #22, that the mag at the right in pic #2 was designed for SVT38, even if it could also be used with SVT40s.

Where are you getting the SVT stocks? I have a Kovrov SVT sporting an AVT stock that i'd love to replace.

                    Hello Svt40,

Well, I got it from a Czech guy but I doubt he has any more. I can ask him anyhow I will probably have a spare one when I get my new rifle.

New addition to my SVT collection: a refurnished bayo. I hope I can get a first unrefurnished model soon. I will surely remove the shellac of this bayo also.

                              An update,

5 months have past since I bought my third SVT40 and I haven't been able to import it from Germany yet...Authorities keep on saying i haven't proved it is an SVT40 because it doesn't say so on the rifle!!!!!!! I have written back three times already, providing more papers and photos....

The square is a marking that means the rifle has been refurbished at some point in it's life.
