I haven't tried mine yet. I will have to renew the insurance before I take it out of home and buy some ammo. I haven't got any.

      Svt-40

I was under the impression all rearsenaled bolts were refinished to the plum color post war.

Finn captures with no import marks and original bolts and stocks are sought after around here.

An update: As I wanted to have a rifle with an early muzzle and front band, bought a deactivated one, to swap both parts. I got it some hours ago: it's the top one, it still has the dark varnish. Now, the deactivation stamp is on the muzzle, so I can't swap that part but it came with some plus: it had the right SVT sling.

I will take the front band. The weapon is dated 1941 but the buttstock is a AVT kind, dated 1945, and seems unissued.

The trigger guard is also the wider AVT kind (top). Another plus is the mag that came (at the right) with it...it is an early SVT 38 model!!!!!

Magazine is not an SVT38 mag. It's early SVT 40 magazine.
Such wide trigger guard was used not only with SVT. It was used since Spring, 1942, so it was also used at late SVT's

That is just like the MP38 and the MP40. Hollow mag housing and flat mags are know as MP38 model but can be found on some MP40s. Many parts would be interchangeable. Have a look at both buttstocks, they are both AVT kind but the one with clearer wood has the thinner trigger guard...and it doesn't fit well there. The wider trigger guard fits perfectly in the AVT butstock, so designed for AVT...I would say, so never mind if they were later mixed up. The mags are clearly made differently, being the one at the right (for SVT38) even shorter. It might have been used on early SVT40 but seems it was designed for SVT38, just the same case as MP38 and 40. If you can show a different mag for the SVT38, please do, as I am willing to learn more about these weapons, thanks.

I've got this pics with a different mag but I believe those are Finnish troops and that might be a Finnish adapted mag for the SVT38.

I've just found a mention to this photo in another forum. Seems it is a finish mag.

A step further... with optic mount. I got it this morning. The mount is repro but the optic is a good one (link). Unfortunately it is fitted to the deactivated gun not to the one in working condition!!

I just purchased one last week and a case of 880 rounds of corrosive ammo. Needless to say that I can't wait to fire this weapon, but have to learn how to dissemble and reassemble the rifle for cleaning. Lots of Youtube vids on how. They make it look so easy. In Canada you can buy these for $200 at the moment. I paid $299, but got to pick out which one I wanted from the local family owned gun store. Had a couple crates of them.

                                AVT only produced in 1943??

                                Gentlemen,

I've been reading around the internet that AVT full-auto selective version of the SVT40 was only produced in 1943, for a short period of time... How come my second rifle has the buttstock dated 1945 in the AVT cartouche?? Any expert can clarify?
