    G.33/40

I just bought a G.33/40, but it has no sight hood or cleaning rod. Anyone have any ideas about where to locate these? I understand that sight hoods are difficult to find.

Will an early K98 rod fit in these? I believe the G.33 is 10 1/8".

I'll post some pics when I receive it early next week. dot 41 with matching bolt.

both the rods and hoods are extremely hard to find. You will pay over $100 for a hood if you can find one. yes a 98 rod will work, only difference to tell a 33/40 rod is in the tapering near the tip that holds the patch.

welcome to the 33/40 club, theyre neat little carbines

Purists here will jump all over me for suggesting that you buy a repro hood and cleaning rod from Sarco while you search for the expensive and rare originals:

          http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/search.aspx?find=G33%2f40

They had the hoods in the past, but I didn't find them using just a quick search. These items are very well made.

            It's here!

My G.33 arrived yesterday. It isn't perfect, but I love it. Although it appears the stock has been sanded, I still think it's a great first G.33. It does have a matching bolt, but the stock is not matching. I think it is in wonderful condition.

            Hope you all like it.

Thanks. My gunsmith checked it out and it is in very fine condition. I put a few rounds through it this afternoon and it is very accurate and operates flawlessly.

The recoil is moderate. My primary hunting rifle is a Ruger M77 compact in.308.
This reminds me of my .308.

I like the short rifles for maneuvering in tree stands. This G.33 would work well for that purpose. It may see some action this fall.

I managed to find a sight hood for this rifle....ouch. They ain't cheap.

I also found a decent, authentic K98 10" cleaning rod, so I guess it is as complete as I can make it.

Thanks to the guys that sent me PMs regarding this rifle.

Wow, you found the recoil to be moderate?? I am not a wuss but I found the recoil on one of these to be not fun at all!! Maybe it is my age and that I fired it from a seated bench position.

                            New ammo, or older surplus?

New Ammo Willi. I have some of that stuff made in Serbia....Partizan I believe it is called. I do have some surplus that I should try to see what the difference might be.

I shoot these short rifles all the time, so I guess I'm accustomed to the recoil. I have half a dozen modern hunting rifles about the size of these.
