Posting a deact in the UK

    Hi guys

I'm about to list an all-matching 1936-dated deact Luger with mags etc on e-stand. Before I do, what is the law these days with regards shipping these around the country?

    Thanks

    Chris

Hi Chris As long as it stays in the Uk I think Your alright to post it.Use Royal Mail Guaranteed Next Day Delivery cost is a bit more (about 9 quid I would have thought) but it is the safest most secure way I know of.

Be carefull Royal mail Post offices recently have been asking me whats inside the packages i have sent out at two seperate post offices, luckily on those ocassions they were not deact firearms (posted to uk adresses aswell) i think this is to do with the new prohibited items sent in the post rules.

          Thanks for that update.

From what I can tell [from the Royal Mail website] they WILL carry them with the proviso there may be delays if they inspect it.

I had a couple of PMs from people asking me what the Luger is etc, and it's this one:

I bought it from Steve earlier this year, but have to move it on. Plan to list later, just checking with Steve I can re-use his pictures first.

As best I am aware they are not entitled to ask You what the contents are. They are not firearms(technically) and are perfectly legal to own. They may ask You the item value and if it is dangerous or prohibited but that is all I believe.I know there is a lot of discussion regarding this currently.

tell me about it, i had a go at them asking them why do you want to know whats inside it at two seperate post offices, and they just point to a new prohibited items poster on the wall.

Royal Mail do now accept Deacts, they WILL scan the package and the gun WILL be examined. I recently sent a Deact pistol from Scotland to a guy in England, the package was scanned then examined by the Police at the Local sorting office, it was then sent by road to Belfast where the Royal Mail "Expert" examined it then sent it on to its destination by road. The gun was found only after I reported it to the Police as Missing/stolen. I sent the gun next day special delivery and it took 3.5 weeks to arrive.
