    It is a KAR88 also known as a Commission Carbine. It was the short version of the GEW88 which preceded the GEW98. KAR88s were typically issued to mounted troops such as cavalry and some artillery.

    They are great little rifles.

      Unteroffizier H. Schaefer dedicated this portrait of himself and his horse to a comrade as reminder of the 1914-15 campaign and wished him 'Happy Easter' on 3 April 1915.

      He also has a Kar88.
