Looking into purchasing this Black Widow rig. Comes with 2 magazines, the holster, the take down tool, a belt, and the name of the Vet who captured it. What do you all think? He's asking $2800 for it.

Would like to see some close ups before putting out that kind of cash! But from what I see looks good! $2800 to me is top buck in my area.
Luger $1800
mags @ $150 $300
Holster $300-$350
Belt and buckle $150
So I guess if all original and matching and what your looking for...go for it

FXO marked mags are correct for this gun. Have the seller disassemble to show the back of the grips and internals. $2800 is high for the first rig. $1500 is a average price for the second. "Black widow" Lugers are a marketing scheme created a few decades ago. The fact that it has black grips should not influence you paying higher for them. You need to verify they are not reproduction grips if having a true 41-42 byf luger is your thing.Comment

A really nice correct Black widow will sell for $2200 and up. If I were going to spend that kind of cash on one, I would buy form a reputable dealer or be 100% sure it is right.Comment

I am not liking them! If you notice, on the second Luger, the grips have no border as the seen on the first example. These black byf grips should have the border.
The backs (on the ones posted) are very crude and pitted from the casting. The holes should be threaded and be able to accept the grip screw if attempted....the holes on these look very small for this.
The first Luger is the better of the two condition wise.....not even considering the grips.
I agree with others that black widow is just a nickname....not sure how or why anyone could have ever thought otherwise as the words are not even German!! I don't know who came up with it.....may have been "RS" as claimed....I know he was using the term in the late 60s......but it may also have been GIs.....either way it makes no difference.....they are "bad" looking Lugers when in nice condition and have always been popular.
Correct ones in nice condition are not that easy to find anymore and not cheap when you do...at least from anyone who knows what they have.Comment
