I think it was tan, but then someone added the brown and green later.

Note that on the front of the can (bullet end), there are three gouges. They are all filled with paint. I would have to guess repaint at some point.

I agree with gurt. I would say it is a modern repaint...see the places were there is no paint, they are shiny. If it was original those shiny parts would be rusted.
