    Need Some Help - Colt

Although this is not from WWII I thought that I could get some help anyway- a friend of mine purchased what he thought was a commemorative Wild Bill Cody colt now he has some doubts.
He describes the items as a Colt Buffalo Bill Cody Colt Model 1849 Civil War in a case, number on gun the 87228. He thought that this was the only one with that number but has seen others offered with the same number.
He would like to know who produced the item and for what reason/special occasion also how many were produced.
Have picture attached - thanks in advace for any info.

    Same serial numbers?

Looks like your friend may have purchased this one from U BEN HAD. If it is suppose to be in the original case. The Phillips screws in the hinges would be a Red Flag.

the Philips head screws would be fine for this ( commemorative ) wild bill cody gun. it is not pretending to be an original period gun or box used by cody. it is a commemorative set. there are working and non working models for sale as well as wild bill commemorative rifles too. they have been sold since the 1960's
I found one non working model on the net with almost the same serial number, with the exception of a number 1 in front of the serial number stated in the first post. I find it odd there are others with the same serial number as the gun shown in the first post. on a non functional gun it would not matter at all. I believe the serial number on these commemorative guns reflects the ORIGINAL gun's serial number. this link is to the original cody pistol .

          Sorry about the mix up

After reading your latest post can I assume that this is a non shooting model? That would be the reason for all of them having the same serial number. I found where Gunstar, from England , sold one awhile back. So looks like there are a few of them out there. Couldn't find any info on what outfit originally sold them.

Thanks for info so far - he told me that it was a shooter but he had it made into a non-shooter as he is located in Germany and laws are tough.
