Seek Info On Japanese rifle

I picked up this Japanese rifle which retains a monopad. The bolt action rifle has no Mum but instead has Japanese characters on the top of the receiver. It does have a seriaL number and arsenal stamp on the left side of the receiver. It has an adjustable sight for long range shooting and retains the cleaning rod. I know its not last ditch can someone enlighten me on what it is and possible value. Thanks Rich

Japanese Type 99 Rifle, series 5 Nagoya....serial #s 1 - 999999 (only earlier production of this series came with the Monopod and "aircraft sights"....

This has been DECRESTED,....you can see where it was removed...has been "Cold blued", but it once had a "MUM"......they all have the "characters" stamped on the reciever...

Looks like a decent rifle overall....but being decrested, no dust cover or sling, keeps it from being "top shelf".....I'd say in the $200. to $350. range...(and whether all the numbers match) If it had the Crest, more in the $350.-500.00
range....

Just my opinion.....I don't specialize in firearms but have certianly owned my share of Japanese rifles and carbines....

The MUM has been grounded off.. The Japanese characters are 99 Type (Sigura)... Manufactured by Kokura Arsenal looks like 27th series... cal. 7.7 mm.....BILL
