On the right side of the frame at the 8:00 position to the takedown lever, the crossed scepters appear to have an A on the left side and a B on the right side with a 5 at the 6:00 position. If that is an A, the pistol was proofed in 1950, with the B indicating Birmingham, and 5 identifies the inspector. If it was proofed in 1950, this might explain the G E R M A N stamped in large letters. Inspector 5 may have still held a grudge against the Nazis from WWII. The pistol could have even been a WWII bring back since it was proofed that late.
The left side marking on the receiver is NOT ENGLISH MAKE.
