    M1 Garand question

Which gas cylinder lock screw would be correct for a Springfield Armory December 1943 rifle. The one on it is marked P with a cresent moon. It seems to be matching in finish and its right there at the transition. So I need some opinions.......................Thanks Jimmy

Just my opinion, but I think the original gas cylinder lock screw on your rifle would have been the single slot (non-poppet) type. I don't think the directive came out until early 1944 to change the lock screw.

Thanks Johnny.......I am sort of leaning that way myself. I guess it could have been replaced in the field as it appears not to have been arsenal rebuilt.

You didn't mention if your rifle was an original survivor, or an arsenal rebuild. If a rebuild, the lock screw would be the poppet type. If original, I would use the early style .

She is an original survivor. Everything is correct on it down to the 43 dated Boyt sling. No rebuild stamps. Nice SA/GAW cartouche.
