    frankestein Remington?

    Hi

I was offered this beautiful 1911 A1 Us Army pistol. The slide is a Remington Rand. The barrel is was manufactured by Colt. The frame I suspect it is colt as well.
The condition and color of both the frame and slide match. They look like they had been there forever.I do not know the value as it is a mismatched example. I understand it happened during the war and post war. I am not sure what would be a good price to offer and use it for target practice if the collector value is low
I do not see Arsenal numbers
If the frame is Colt, it was manufactured in 1942
    thanks

    Juan

I think you pretty well have it figured out. It is actually a Colt with a Remington Rand slide. It was originally shipped from Colt in October of 1942. Could have been rebuilt at any time, but probably after WWII, and not all rebuilds were marked.

Probably value is in the $750/900 range. Couldn't tell how bad the bore was, but it didn't look good.

Looks to me like the gun has been through a depot rebuild program and likely not molested afterward. It's probably not a bad gun at all, fully up to original issue standards.

The WB inspector stamp indicates inspection by Waldemar Broberg. All guns so stamped were originally blued, IIRC.

The blued 1911A1 pistols ended at about serial number 734500 when the phosphate finish was initiated. The first pistols manufactured after Col. Waldemar Broberg assumed command of the Springfield Ordnance District were in the 750,000 serial number range, and went through the 861,000 serial number range.

As commanding officer, Col. Broberg did not inspect pistols, but his initials indicate that it was inspected and accepted by his authority. His initials are also found on early Winchester M1 Rifles, which were also manufactured in his ordnance district.

                            Thanks a lot

The patina and color of the slide and frame match 100 %. I will make an offer as it is a beautiful 1911. I was looking for a 100 % Remington rand, but in person it look much better than the photos.

I took some photos as the previous one did not do justice to the pistol

                              thanks
